5 Great Baltimore Bars

Sep 8 , 2011

The only true way to get to know a city is to get into the nitty-gritty of its nightlife. The best way to that is to get out on the bar scene and see how the locals to do. Check out some of these Baltimore bars for day time and evening drinking.

Woody’s Rum Bar

For those like their tipple early in the day, Woody’s Rum Bar should be top of the list of Baltimore bars to visit. Having won awards such as ‘Best bar to get Day Drunk’ and ‘Best Place to Take Visitors’ this place the epitome of holiday-drinking in Baltimore. With a view of the harbor and a great schedule of events, a trip to Baltimore is not complete without a day spent downing rum cocktails at Woody’s.

The Horse

The Horse, or ‘The Horse You Came In On Saloon’, to call it by its full title, is, as you might have guessed, a saloon type bar with live music and a bunch of lively regulars. This place has been serving sarsaparilla up to regulars since 1775, making it one of the oldest Baltimore bars still open today. Prepare to leave The Horse drunk as a skunk with beers from $2 and Bourbon for only $3.50.

Slainte Irish Pub

There probably isn’t a city in the world that does not have at least one Irish pub and Baltimore is no different. Of course, Irish pubs are so popular because they are fun, they are lively and they have happy Irish people serving behind the bar. If anyone knows how to party, the Irish do, join them any night of the week for drinking, dancing and Celtic camaraderie.

Max’s Taphouse

It’s all about the beer at this traditional watering hole. Max’s Taphouse probably has the biggest selection of beers of all Baltimore bars. They have everything from Trappist beers to fortified beers to Indian Pale Ale and imported beers from across Europe. Max’s supports local breweries and introduces new tap ales and beers every month. You can be assured that only the best of the best make it to the pumps at Max’s.

Grand Central Station

As a gay and lesbian venue, this place is not really aimed at the conservative type. For open minded, fun loving people though, a great night is guarantied at Grand Central Station. Don your funkiest clothes and leave you inhibitions at home to party with Baltimore’s craziest crowd. Come in during the week for karaoke, drag acts, and pool tournaments. Head to this place on the weekend for £2 drinks and late night dancing.

Fill up on food fuel before you hit the bars of Baltimore, try some of the city’s famous crab cakes or dine at a great Baltimore restaurant.
